Macau gambling revenue jumps nearly 500% in May
May's figure was $1.31 billion, the highest monthly total this year

Gambling revenue in Macau surged 492% on the year in May as the company continued to see a pick-up in visitors from mainland China over the Golden Week holiday. Average daily visitor arrivals during the five-day holiday rose 158% compared with the Spring Festival in February due to an easing of coronavirus travel curbs. May's figure was $1.31 billion, the highest monthly total this year. For the first five months of 2021 combined, Macau has recorded GGR of MOP$42.4 billion, up 28.7% over the same period last year. Its GGR has now increased sequentially over the last three months, having dropped slightly in February. As a reminder, the company’s gaming revenue rose 1,014% year-over-year in April to $1.1 billion. Last April, gaming revenue sank a record 97% to less than $100 million.
