Sony Semiconductor Solutions and Microsoft Corp. announced a partnership to create solutions that make AI-powered smart cameras and video analytics easier to access and deploy for their mutual customers. As part of the deal, the two will embed Microsoft Azure AI capabilities on IMX500. After the announcement, corporate vice president and commercial chief marketing officer at Microsoft Takeshi Numoto said that “video analytics and smart cameras can drive better business insights and outcomes across a wide range of scenarios for businesses.” As a reminder, Sony reported unimpressive fourth-quarter fiscal 2019 results last week. The firm’s net income plunged 85.7% year over year to $115.6 million or 9 cents per share). Late last month, Microsoft reported fiscal third-quarter sales growth of 15%, fueled by its cloud business.
