Stocks impacted: Microsoft Corp (MSFT)
Microsoft Corp said it found malicious software in its systems related to a massive hacking campaign disclosed by U.S. officials a few days ago. The firm detected, isolated, and removed a malicious version of the software from SolarWinds. However, its investigation so far showed no evidence hackers had used Microsoft systems to attack customers or anyone else. The company also acknowledged that the investigation is ongoing. In turn, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said such attacks pose “a grave risk to the Federal Government and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments as well as critical infrastructure entities and other private sector organizations.” This week, Microsoft has separately made a series of aggressive moves to stymie the attacks, seizing control of a key domain used in the attacks. Microsoft stocks were unfazed by the latest reports, closing nearly unchanged on Thursday in a broad-based rally on Wall Street.
