Thales completes takeover of Gemalto
French aerospace-and-defense group Thales SA said that it completed the previously announced 4.8 billion-euro takeover of Dutch rival Gemalto NV. The takeover, which has been in the works for 15 months, creates a group that will cover the entire critical decision chain in a digital world.
French aerospace and defense electronics group has finally completed the deal with the chipmaker, stock down over 0.6%.

According to Thales, the deal will boost its revenues to EUR19 billion and self-funded research and development to EUR1 billion a year, and also will lift its presence in Latin America, north America and Asia. Gemalto will now form one of Thales's seven global divisions, to be named Digital Identity and Security. As a reminder, Thales posted sales of EUR15.86 billion and net profit of EUR982 million in 2018.
