Vodafone partners with Amazon for services in Europe
Partners will develop commercial edge computing services running on 5G networks
Stocks impacted: Vodafone Group PLC (VOD), Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN)
As the UK telecommunications group reported, it will make Amazon’s wavelength service available in Europe. In particular, the partnership will help to provide access to edge-computing capabilities to developers, Internet of Things, devices and end users. Amazon is also partnering with Verizon to incorporate WaveLength technology into parts of its wireless network. The American giant is working with other global partners, such KDDI and SK Telecom. Earlier this week, Amazon Web Services announced introduction of a new service called WaveLength, which puts technology from AWS closer to users’ devices. The technology is expected to be used more broadly by device makers, carriers and cable companies in 2020.
